My God is a Jacket, an exhibition of work by Alex Apostolidis and Maddie Lychek
curated by Michelle Caron-Pawlowsky and Ezra J. Teboul
October 13-22, 2026
My God is a Jacket brings together the work of Alex Apostolidis and Maddie Lychek. In Apostolidis’ ACT IV, photographs and poetic text ask us to participate in acts of watching, yearning, and collecting. Their diaristic archive is rooted in chronicling self discovery, through objects, community, and desire. The work invites us into a place where transformation is constant and gender is fluid, where we remember the voice of a past lover as we see their fragments through the screen and wonder how they see us. Maddie Lychek’s Dyke Clothing Swap creates space for belonging and existing in community with others. This social practice, participatory work builds community-responsive forms of engagement, where the artist invites masculine, butch, femme lesbian/dyke community members to participate in an intimate exchange. The participation asks how “creating space” shapes the work’s relational dynamics, politics of inclusion, and specificity of audience. Visitors are encouraged to bring clothing to participate in Dyke Clothing Swap. In this exhibition, Apostolidis’ and Lychek’s practices merge public performance with private self-perception. A perfect fit for Biter's home setting, they balance multiple forms of material and poetic community building. Our second pairing of artists hopes to highlight Biter’s interest in strategies for building healthy connections through conversations on clothes, images, text, and space.
